Shady Hanna

Born in Cairo, at the age of seven he joined the Cairo Conservatoire where he studied the cello, He graduated in 2008 with Excellent Honours, and obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in 2010. He obtained the "Diplome of Musical Studies" in Musical Composition, and the "Perfectionnement" in Cello, from “Conservatoire de Lyon”, France. He has received the first prize in “Musical Composition” at the Supreme Council of Culture Competition (SCCC) in 2010, the ECCMOP's commission award of Musical Composition in 2013, as his music has been performed in Egypt, France, USA, UK, Finland, and South Korea. He also received the first prize at the “SCCC” in 1999 for solo playing and in 2007 for chamber music, and the first prize at Dubai International Peace Music Festival in 2008. In 2017, he joined the AMFEK fellowship program at Korea National University of Arts, where he performed some of his works and received the Certificate of Excellence from the Korean Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism. Throughout his career, Shady became the principal cellist at Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted CSO many times through his participation in the conducting workshop held by Maestro Ahmed El Saedi. He played as a soloist with The CSO, Cairo Opera Orchestra, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Orchestra, The Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra, and others. In 2021, Shady established “Obélisque Ensemble”, to perform the string orchestra repertory as well as to place young talented soloists in the spotlight as one of its main aims. Now, he is an assistant professor at Cairo Conservatoire and the principal cellist of Cairo Opera Orchestra.
